Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen explained what his mindset is like after nine and a half seasons in Formula 1.
Although he is only 26 years old, the Dutchman is currently in his tenth season in the sport. Throughout this time, the Dutchman accomplished everything he could think about, from first race victory to winning the Championship to breaking countless records with the most dominant season in 2023.
The triple World Champion is now one of the most experienced drivers on the grid, and in one of his latest interviews for Formule1.nl, he discussed his mindset.
"I haven't been much concerned with that at all, with 'expectation.' I try to say to myself that I try to do as well as I can every year."
The Dutchman is also never concerned about what other people have to say to him. One of the latest great examples was when he was criticized for participating in a late-night sim race session ahead of the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix. His reaction to the critics? "They can all f**k off."
This kind of mindset was probably crucial for the Red Bull Racing F1 driver's success. He continued to explain how he never worried about anything.
"Because your dream is to become world champion and things like that. But those are things that come your way if you do well enough, and you have to be with the right team."
"Everything that has happened has exceeded my wildest expectations. But again, I was totally out of it. 61 wins, none, or one: I never really worried that much."
Verstappen has emphasized in the past how luck plays a role in each F1 driver's success. There are some who were great but never got the car to prove it.
The Dutchman has been a bit lucky in that respect. In the last couple of seasons, he got a competitive car and made the most of it, but so many victories and Championships were never his goal.
