The three-time World Champion Max Verstappen has made almost no mistakes in 2023, only one, and he remembers it well as he called it "embarrassing."
The Red Bull Racing F1 driver has been praised from all sides for his extreme consistency and flawless 2023 season. Max Verstappen is the only driver to finish every single race in 2023.
On one hand, it tells us that the Red Bull team did a perfect job to avoid technical issues. On the other hand, it underlines how on-point the Dutchman's driving was this season.
The 26-year-old had a little moments here and there, but they were never big enough for him not to save the situation. Some of them include losing the rear of his car riding the curbs in Canada or Belgium.
Or even going wide on the grass in the penultimate turn of the Albert Park Circuit during the Australian Grand Prix 11 laps before the end of the race.
However, none of these small moments caused any damage. His only mistake that resulted in damage to his RB19 car happened during the Qualifying session at Silverstone ahead of the British Grand Prix.
The Dutchman wanted to go out on the track for a flying lap, but as he left his garage, he understeered into the opposite wall, damaging his front wing.
Fortunately, his pit crew could push him back into the garage and change the wing pretty easily. While the incident didn't really affect the weekend, as he went on to win the British Grand Prix, Verstappen called the mistake "embarrassing." He told Blick:
“"This year I only made one big mistake. I hit the pit wall at Silverstone. That's rather embarrassing. But not everything went ideally in Singapore either."”
Singapore Grand Prix was the only race in 2023 that Red Bull Racing didn't win, and nobody attributed the team's lack of pace to the Dutchman but owned the problem as he added:
“"Unfortunately, I messed up the set-up - and it happened. Our only defeat in 2023 [Carlos Sainz won in a Ferrari].”
