Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz asserted he doesn't feel underrated after being asked whether he believes he sometimes doesn't get the credit that he deserves.
Carlos Sainz won the 2024 Australian Grand Prix, achieving the third win in his career driving for Ferrari. He has performed very well during his two races for the Italian team this season so far.
However, we already know the 29-year-old won't be with the team next year as Ferrari decided to keep his teammate, Charles Leclerc, and replace Sainz with Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes.
The two drivers who stood on the podium at Albert Park Circuit with him, Lando Norris and Leclerc, were asked whether they believed the Spaniard was underrated. They both rejected the notion, saying people who know him know his qualities. Sainz then told the media:
"I don't know what to say. I guess I agree with my two favorite teammates! (Lando Norris was Sain'z's teammate for two years at McLaren.) There are some kind words there, but I agree with them."
"I think people that know me or have shared a team with me or people that have worked with me, know me and I don't feel underrated by people that know about this sport."
There is a group of fans that suggests Carlos Sainz is in F1 because of his father's influence, but the 29-year-old keeps proving he deserves a seat in the sport, and he wouldn't have made it to Ferrari had the team from Maranello not believed in his qualities. Sainz added:
"Then other people that maybe don't have an insight and don't know as much about this sport, if they want to underrate me, I'm fine with that."
"I don't care honestly, but I care about the people that know the sport well and about my team-mates, the people that have seen my data, seen how I work, seen my speed, and that's the thing I care about, and I don't feel underrated by them."
