George Russell dug at
Lando Norris after the 2024
Las Vegas Grand Prix, where
Max Verstappen secured his fourth Championship title.
Red Bull Racing F1 driver
Max Verstappen has become a four-time World Champion after the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix as he finished
ahead of his championship rival Lando Norris, which was all he needed to do to be crowned a 2024 Drivers' Champion.
For a while, especially right after the summer break, it seemed like
McLaren had a much faster car and that
Norris could really
catch up with the 27-year-old.
However, Verstappen destroyed all of Norris's chances with his
consistent performance (even without the fastest car), and mainly, the race in Brazil,
where he won after starting from P17.
George Russell, who won the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix, first
congratulated the newly crowned four-time World Champion but then went on to suggest that it is about time someone challenged him. He told
ViaPlay:
"I just want to make sure we get in that fight [for the title] now because it's about time somebody gave him [Verstappen] a proper fight. That's my plan, that's what I want to do."
"He's a fierce competitor, and Red Bull are doing amazing, but this championship probably should've gone down to the wire."
George Russell spoke about the Drivers' Championship battle between Norris and Verstappen earlier in the season, and back then, he argued it would go down to the wire.
Ultimately, Verstappen sealed his title with
two race weekends still to go, and while the
Mercedes driver didn't mention Norris, it was clear that he didn't think the 25-year-old did a
good enough job. At the same time, the 26-year-old suggested he would like a
more competitive car as he added:
"You could argue that Max probably wasn't the favourite at one point and yet he wins it with races to go. So we need to get our stuff together to make it a bit more challenging."
