Red Bull Racing F1 driver
Sergio Perez might possibly have a chance to stay with the Red Bull Racing team beyond 2024, according to recent rumors.
While 2023 has probably been the best season for the Red Bull Racing team and
Max Verstappen, it has not been so great for Sergio Perez.
The flying Dutchman set a very high bar with his performances, and Checo has not been dealing best with the pressure he started facing around the middle of the season.
The 33-year-old
confessed to having doubts about his car, saying he did not feel confident since the upgrade in
Maimi. Perez could not beat his teammate ever since that race.
The Mexican started struggling so much at one point that his second place in the Championship got endangered by the
Mercedes driver
Lewis Hamilton in the third place.
The Mexican driver got under a lot of fire from the media and F1 fans, who were saying he does not deserve his seat in Red Bull with such below-average performances.
Numerous rumors surfaced suggesting Perez would lose his seat in the Red Bull for 2024 and will be replaced by either
Daniel Ricciardo,
Yuki Tsunoda, or even
Fernando Alonso.
All of these rumors have been declined by Perez himself, as well as
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner and the
team advisor Helmut Marko.
Being focused so much on the negative side, many F1 fans would still not believe Perez could even get his seat even for 2024. The following rumor will, therefore, shock all of them.
According to Total-Motorsport.com, negotiation talks between Perez and the Red Bull Racing team concerning the possible contract extension are scheduled to take place in December.
For now, the team and the Mexican driver are fully focused on achieving one in the Constructors' Championship to finish the season on a high note.
Total-Motorsport also mentioned one of the key points of the negotiation is the length of the new deal. Apparently, there is a possibility of a new two-year contract on the table.
The two-year contract would start in 2024 and end in 2025. Therefore, the new contract would override the current contract that is due at the end of 2024 and extend it by one year.
