AlphaTauri F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo said in a recent interview he wants to be seen as a "race car driver, not an entertainer."
Daniel Ricciardo is famous for his neutral expression being a big smile. The 34-year-old driver has received negative comments from Jacques Villeneuve recently in an interview for Gazzetta dello Sport:
"I would ask kids who want to be drivers today – do you want it out of passion or because you want to be like Daniel Ricciardo, smiling in commercials?"
The AlphaTauri driver explained in his recent interview that F1 drivers got more popular thanks to the series Driver To Survive, which documents each season of Formula One thrillingly and entertainingly.
On the other hand, the Honey Badger made clear he wants to be seen as a race car driver. As reported by motorsportweek.com, he said: "First and foremost, I certainly see myself as a race car driver, not an entertainer or anything like that."
The Australian laughed at some of the funny encounters he has with his fans in public. Apparently, some people know Ricciardo not for watching races on Sunday but for the TV series.
"It is funny sometimes, people come up to me like: ‘You were great in that season,’ and I’m [like] ‘racing season – or Drive to Survive season?’ So yeah, for sure, to some, we’re maybe not all viewed as race car drivers. But yeah, it’s just it’s part of it."
Ricciardo's goal is similar to other F1 drivers - winning Championships. To do that, he has to start delivering outstanding results and make sure his performances speak for himself. The Honey Badger clarified:
"And yeah, just making sure that I am seen as a race car driver who’s still hungry and determined and not someone who’s just here for a good time."
