Former F1 driver Timo Glock reacted to
Red Bull Racing's driver
Max Verstappen getting booed on the podium after the 2023
United States Grand Prix.
Max Verstappen showcased his excellent driving skills again at
Circuit of the Americas last weekend as he won the race on Sunday even while managing an issue with his brakes.
What wasn't so nice about the weekend for Verstappen was the crowd's booing directed toward him on the podium while receiving the trophy for first place.
This wasn't the first time somebody got booed on the podium, as it happened numerous times before. Writing for Sky Germany, former Toyota and Virgin driver Timo Glock said:
"Why Max Verstappen was booed after his victory in Austin is incomprehensible to me. It may have been due to the issue between Sergio Perez and Red Bull, but Verstappen had nothing to do with that. That's why I can't understand it at all."
Verstappen has been booed multiple times in the past by fans of his rivals like Lewis Hamilton. The same happened to the seven-time World Champion and multiple other drivers.
What is strange about this case is that Austin is viewed as a more neutral place to race for drivers as it is not a home country to the leading title contenders.
If it was, in fact, Mexican fans that booed Verstappen, it is incomprehensible as he races for the same team as their favorite
Sergio Perez and has done nothing wrong throughout the whole Grand Prix to upset them. Glock concluded:
"It's a shame for the sport because Verstappen is an exceptional athlete who has delivered an incredible performance this year. In my eyes, that's an absolute no-go, and it shouldn't be done."
