Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher addressed the hateful comments from Sergio Perez's father after he suggested that Checo would be replaced in Red Bull.
In his latest appearance on the ESPN podcast, Sergio Perez's father, Antonio Perez Garibay, attacked Ralf Schumacher for suggesting that Perez's son was already out of Red Bull Racing.
The Mexican F1 driver hasn't been performing well even after the summer break when Red Bull claimed they had fixed the car. In the last seven race weekends, Perez collected almost six times fewer points than his teammate Max Verstappen (20 vs 115).
Looking at the results and performance on the track, Ralf Schumacher stated he was pretty sure that the Mexican driver wouldn't be in Red Bull in 2025 (multiple pundits, including Johny Hebert and Eddie Jordan, said the same) and might not even finish the 2024 season.
Sergio Perez's father called him out on this statement in the podcast. However, he added multiple unnecessary hateful comments:
"There's a driver who was a Formula 1 driver, [turned] journalist. He first stated that Checo [Perez] was already out of Red Bull. The following week, he [Schumacher] came out of the closet."
"I don't know if he was in love with Checo. Do you understand it? There are many strange things."
“You no longer know if he is a journalist, a woman, a gentleman. But his opinion doesn’t matter, not because of Checo Perez, but because of what his [ex-]wife said about him.
The German former F1 driver and six-time Grand Prix winner responded to what has been said via a post on his Instagram account, where he wrote:
"I would also stand 100% behind my son and try to help. That's what you do as a father. As for the style, I would handle it differently, but we know Mr. Pérez with all his emotions."
"Therefore, I'm not mad at him. However, I believe that results on the track would be the better argument."
