Sky Sports' David Croft Hails Verstappen For Winning 'Clearly Not In Fastest Car'

Sky Sports commentator David Croft praised Max Verstappen to the skies for winning with a car that clearly wasn't the fastest on the F1 grid.

Coming into the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix race week, there has been a lot of talk about whether Red Bull Racing F1 driver Max Verstappen could seal his fourth consecutive title already in the sin city.

The Dutchman increased his lead significantly during the previous race in Sao Paulo, where he finished first and his championship rival Lando Norris only in P6.

If the Dutchman managed to maintain at least a 60-point lead even after the end of the race at the Las Vegas Strip Circuit, he would be crowned a 2024 World Champion. Sky Sports commentator David Croft said on the Sky F1 podcast:

"If he wins in Vegas again as he did last year and goes on then to take the title. Brilliant. Well done Max Verstappen."

"What a fantastic performance. And to be world champion in a year where he's clearly not in the fastest car. I think the performance of that Red Bull is somewhere between Max and Checo Perez, but more on the Max end. But to do it in not in the fastest car, it's a brilliant season."

Over the 21 Grand Prix weekends that already took place, Verstappen amassed 393 points in total. In comparison, his teammate Sergio Perez managed to collect only 151 (more than two times fewer).

"He's' a phenomenal driver. We talk a lot about Max and talk a lot about off the track, and forcing other people off the track, but let's actually spend a minute or so saying Max Verstappen - genius driver, fantastic world champion. He deserves to be a four-time world champion."

On top of everything, the Sky Sports commentator believes that Max Verstappen is already a five-time World Champion in the making if Red Bull can provide him with a competitive car in 2025.

"If he's got the car next year that can compete will surely be a five-time champion in the making."

"One of the greatest drivers ever to race in F1 and we should not let anything else detract from that. It's rare that we've actually had the chance to sit down and discuss Max the champion."

In relation to where he thinks the Red Bull Racing F1 driver could seal his title, David Croft stated he believes that we will witness the crowning of the Champion already in Las Vegas this weekend.
