Sergio Perez discussed his performance in 2024 in relation to the extension of his contract in an interview ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix.
The 2024 season officially starts this weekend with the 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix. According to early predictions from drivers,
Red Bull should have the dominant car at the beginning.
If that were the case, the driver with the highest chance of challenging Max Verstappen (the winner of the last three Championships) would be his teammate Sergio Perez. As quoted by
Soy Motor, he said:
"Max is one with the car, with the team, he is in the best moment of his life, in a great moment of form. He faces each weekend knowing what he needs from the car to go faster, he continues to improve, each time he goes faster, he doesn't make mistakes."
While Perez acknowledged Verstappen's strengths, he is going into the season with the goal of beating the Dutchman. He continued: "He's very hard to beat, we'll try. Last year, we started really close, and this year, we'll see."
"If I perform on the track, it will be easy for my agent. Over the years, it weighs on you less, when you're young it worries you more, you think Formula 1 is too big when you arrive, and when you're here, it's just a sport."
In the end, the Mexican driver confidently added he believes there are several "good years" ahead of him and
Red Bull, even though his contract expires at the end of this season.
"At Red Bull, they want me to perform at my best level, and if I do, I'm sure they will want me to stay. We have good years ahead, maybe not many, but several."
