McLaren F1 driver Oscar Piastri has talked about being recognized more and more in his recent interview.
Not many people could say who Oscar Piastri was before the 2023 Formula One season. However, the Australian has stepped in as a replacement for Daniel Ricciardo and has blown F1 fans away with his performances.
Sitting next to more experienced and super-talented Lando Norris is not easy, but Piastri has handled the situation more than well, matching the pace of the Brith throughout most of the races.
The Australian has been making a good name for himself as he scored three podiums in the last two weekends finishing third during the Japanese Grand Prix, winning the Sprint in Qatar, and finishing second during the Qatar Grand Prix.
In his recent interview for Speedcafe, Piastri was asked if anything has changed in terms of his everyday life, whether he gets recognized in the street or interrupted during a dinner out, and he responded:
"I’ve obviously started to be recognized a little bit more when I’m out and about, but everyone has been great with me. I’ve had a lot of people give me encouragement and nice words and that has been really nice."
While Piastri might not yet have achieved the Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen level of fame, the youngster has a bright future in front of him, so he might need to get used to the fame. The Australian elaborated:
"I would not say my life has changed massively, though. I still go about my business pretty quietly and keep things very normal, and I like it that way. In general, I’m a pretty laid-back and chilled person, so I just like to go under the radar and relax when I’m away from the F1 world.”
Some people like Olav Mol already deem Oscar Piastri as "the best rookie since Max Verstappen." The Australian might have a chance for another podium next weekend, as the COTA should suit McLaren.
