Lando Norris reflected on his championship battle with Max Verstappen during the FIA prize-giving ceremony after the end of the 2024 season.
Attending the FIA prize-giving ceremony that took place in Rwanda in 2024 was for multiple drivers, one of their last duties in 2024.
McLaren Racing F1 driver Lando Norris attended the ceremony for two reasons: because his team won the Constructors' Championship and also to collect the trophy for second place in the Drivers' Championship.
For a while, it seemed like the 24-year-old could win both Championships this season, but in the end, he didn't have what it took to beat the four-time world champion Max Verstappen.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Briton first retracted his previous statement from the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, in which he suggested Verstappen's crucial victory was due to luck rather than skill.
George Russell stated that Max Verstappen wasn't the favorite at one point and that Norris should have won the title and the Mercedes driver wasn't the only one who thought so.
However, Lando Norris disagreed, saying he was never close enough to the Red Bull Racing driver, even though many people thought he was.
"I was never close enough to Max. I think if anyone thought if I was going to get it, it was a little bit far-fetched. But at the same time, we tried for as long as possible. And I tried."
Nevertheless, the 24-year-old McLaren driver said he was happy to celebrate the Constructors' Championship with his team as he added:
"Happy to celebrate of course, we're going be celebrating a lot tonight as a team especially. I [haven't been] in a prize giving, an FIA prize giving in a long time."
"So first of all happy to be here, but I'm happy to be here even more because we're celebrating something special"
