Lando Norris expressed frustration during a post-sprint qualifying interview as he explained why he hates questions related to Max Verstappen and the Championship.
The McLaren Racing driver Lando Norris qualified in P2 for the Sprint race on Saturday. He was beaten only by his teammate Oscar Piastri, whose lap time was only 0,029 seconds faster.
What might be even more positive for the 24-year-old Briton is that his Championship rival Max Verstappen (whom he hasn't spoken to since Mexico City) will start the Sprint race from P4 and didn't seem to have very strong pace.
However, when Norris when asked whether he was happy considering the starting position of the Red Bull Racing driver, he snapped at the reporter at Interlagos Circuit:
"I don't care. I hate this question so much. I don't care about where he qualifies, for me it's just because of my own job and that's it, it's just the same question every time, it doesn't matter, I don't know, if he's first, if he's last, I'll do the best I can."
The McLaren Racing F1 driver now needs to gain 11 points on Verstappen every single weekend in order to win the Championship.
Although he topped the timing sheets also in the FP1 session, Norris suggested he didn't feel very good in the car. However, his team managed to turn the car around going into the Sprint qualifying. He added:
"I think a big improvement compared to where we were earlier today. We were struggling a lot. I'm a little bit surprised that we were so quick today, but a pleasant one of course."
"I feel like I've made too many mistakes on my final lap and then I just boxed. I wasn't expecting it, so a pleasant surprise."
"Tomorrow's a completely different day, so we'll see. We definitely made some good steps forward. Happy with today, but we'll see how it goes tomorrow."
