McLaren driver
Lando Norris talked about his impressions after three days of pre-season ahead of the first race in Bahrain.
McLaren is one of the older teams on the grid with great tradition and success in its history. However, the team has been struggling for quite a while since the hybrid era began- in 2014.
The British team has a great budget, facilities, a great team, and excellent drivers, but for some reason, they haven't gotten everything right for the last few years. Lando Norris told the media:
"I think the issues we've had over the last few years were just lack of preparation and knowledge of certain things."
Last season, McLaren started as the worst team and was dead last after the first two races of the season. However, the team made an amazing comeback and finished the season in fourth place.
"This year, I think we've been definitely a lot more prepared in every area, so I'm very happy about that. The team done an excellent job to get everything ready and not have any faults like that."
The Papaya team was also in a much better position going into the winter break, as
it was the third-strongest team in the second half of 2023.
However, the pre-season testing did not go the best for McLaren. They encountered quite a few issues, so the testing wasn't as smooth as for
Red Bull, for example.
"Just various other things which have happened, which I mean, it's good that it happened now and we can prepare for a bit more for the future."
The 24-year-old remains upbeat as he asserted the team is on the right foot ahead of the season, starting in only a few days with the 2024
Bahrain Grand Prix. He added:
"And I think we've definitely come into this season, this test and this year, on the right foot for once. I don't think we've done that really at all the last three, four years."
