Red Bull Racing advisor
Helmut Marko recently discussed his team's alternatives for the second seat alongside Max Verstappen.
Sergio Perez's contract with Red Bull expires at the end of the 2024 season. While
Christian Horner said the team might consider extending Mexican's contract, the team has many other alternatives to pick from.
Firstly, Red Bull has a sister team- RB, with Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda, who might be prioritized. The Honey Badger was rumored to be on top of Red Bull's list of potential Perez replacement drivers.
But other drivers from different teams showed great potential in 2023. One is
Alex Albon from
Williams, and the other is
Carlos Sainz from
Ferrari.
Albon had an impressive season with Williams last year, and Horner himself suggested he has
become a "hot property" on the driver market again.
However, the problem with the Williams driver seems to be that he is contracted to Williams until the end of the season in 2025. Marko told Kleine Zeitung: "Albon is not an option for us, he has a contract until 2025."
We've seen recently with
Lewis Hamilton that not all contracts are set in stone. However, it looks like Albon will race for the British team until the end of the season 2025.
Carlos Sainz, on the other hand, is out of contract at the end of 2024. It is clear he won't be driving for Ferrari, and the 29-year-old is now on the lookout for a team that could offer him a chance of competing for the Championship title.
Marko didn't dismiss the Spanish driver but suggested that Sainz will probably want to make a decision sooner than Red Bull: "Sainz probably wants to make a decision before we do."
Interestingly, both Sainz and Albon have been part of the Red Bull family before but left for different teams. Could any of them return in 2025?
