According to a report from Sky Sports, Adrian Newey's contract with Aston Martin should be announced on Tuesday next week - September 10th.
Adrian Newey, who left the Red Bull Racing F1 team earlier this season (after the 2024 Miami Grand Prix), has had quite some time to decide which team he wants to join next.
Initially, the car designer was mostly connected with Ferrari. Some reports suggested he signed with the Maranello team long ago.
Even Aston Martin insiders reportedly stated they believed Adrian Newey was more likely to go to Ferrari. However, these speculations completely disappeared over time, and during the last few weeks, the 65-year-old has mostly been connected to Aston Martin.
Multiple major news outlets (including Motorsport.com, RacingNews365, and more) have confirmed this week their sources suggested Aston Martin will be Newey's final destination. Sky Sports's Craig Slater joined them, saying:
“"My understanding is that Adrian Newey said yes to the Formula 1 team based in Silverstone - which is Aston Martin."”
“"I expect an official confirmation that he will be joining them early next week. Let's say next Tuesday because Aston Martin has called a news conference on Tuesday next week, and it would make sense to present Adrian Newey on that date in advance of the next Grand Prix in Azerbaijan."”
In the past, Newey expressed regret over not being able to work with Lewis Hamilton or Fernando Alonso. If he joins Aston Martin, he will have the chance to work with the Spanish double World Champion, who, by the way, also said he wished to work with "the legend" (Adrian Newey).
“"Newey has certain contractual obligations, which he has to meet with his current employer, Red Bull. That limits him from making a decision about his future and signing for another team until September 6th, which is Friday this week."”
“"He has for quite a while now had personal terms agreed with Aston Marti. He is going to be paid - I have been told, a salary in excess of £20 million a year, around about $25 million per year, which puts him in the bracket of the top drivers in F1."”
