Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso praised Adrian Newey as he said he was happy to live at the same time that Newey produced cars.

Adrian Newey is a British engineer and current Chief Technology Officer at Red Bull. Newey is responsible for producing one of the most dominant cars Formula One has ever seen, the RP19, and is considered one of the best CTOs in F1 ever.

Adrian Newey made an appearance on the Beyond the Grid podcast where, among other things, he mentioned he wished he could have worked with Fernando Alonso or Lewis Hamilton.

"Working with Fernando and Lewis would have been fabulous. But it never happened. It’s just circumstance sometimes, that’s the way it is."

The Spanish matador shares the same feelings as the Red Bull's Chief Technology officer. Alonso revealed he has been close to working together with Newey in the past, as according to motrosport.com, he said:

"He’s a legend of the sport. We’ve been very close a few times to working together and we spoke about this."

The 42-year-old driver wrote a prologue to the Newey's book a few years ago called "How to Build a Car - The Autobiography of the World's Greatest Formula 1 Designer." He said:

"I remember when he published a book a few years ago in Spain, I had the privilege to do the first page, the prologue. For me, it’s just an incredible person that I was so lucky to work in the same environment as him"

Cars designed by Adrian Newey have won 12 Constructors' and 13 Drivers' Championships ever since 1992, when he won his first Championship with Williams and Nigel Mansel. Alonso continued:

"Even if we never worked together, I’m happy that [I'm] living and driving in this time - that Adrian Newey is just building Formula 1 cars."

Adrian Newey played a significant role in the development of the Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar, to which Fernando Alonso referred as he concluded:

"I wish one day that I was working with him… I’ll drive the [Aston Martin] Valkyrie [road-going track day car project] at home, and maybe I’ll feel something already when I jump in, and that will make me happy."
