Mercedes wants to provide Lewis Hamilton with a very competitive car, as the British driver is set to leave the team after the 2024 season.

The seven-time World Champion will be driving in Mercedes for the last season before moving to his new team, Ferrari, in 2025. It will be a very emotional but also a very weird year for Hamilton.

On the one hand, he will want to achieve the best results with the German team; on the other hand, there is already a discussion about how much data Mercedes will share with the Brit. When asked, Team Principal Toto Wolff showed that he has full belief in his driver.

However, after the team launched their W15, Wolff made sure to point out that he's aware that the 39-year-old will leave the team after the season, and because of that, they wanted to make the best car possible.

"Obviously it's going to be our last season with Lewis so we are keen on really bringing a quick car."

Hamilton spent 11 seasons in Mercedes, with 2024 being his 12th, and he has won six of his seven World Championships with the team. Therefore, it's not a surprise that the team wants to honor him, even though his move to Ferrari was not something they had expected.

Still, Mercedes was behind their competitors in 2023, especially Red Bull, who seemed to be in a league of their own. That's why Wolff is aware that they have a lot of work to do, but in spite of that, they remain motivated.

"We know we have a mountain to climb to fight at the very front. There are no miracles in this sport. But our ambition and determination are strong."

Nobody knows how well the car will perform until it hits the track in Bahrain, which applies to all teams on the grid.

Therefore, the 52-year-old is curious to see whether the improvements made will translate into more successful results than during the previous two seasons when Mercedes managed to win only one race.

"Since charting this new course, development has progressed well. We had several items on our priority list for this car. We will soon see if we've made the step we've aimed for."
