Zak Brown applauded Red Bull and Aston Martin drivers Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso after their incredible performances throughout the 2023 season.
The McLaren F1 team recently posted a letter from their CEO, Zak Brown, reflecting on the 2023 season. In this letter, Brown addressed multiple topics, including the Las Vegas Grand Prix controversy as well as Red Bull's and AlphaTauri's collaboration.
The CEO also applauded the amazing performances of Max Verstappen, who achieved his third Championship title in 2023 and led Red Bull to break multiple remarkable records.
"Credit must go to Max Verstappen, who broke all the records in a year of domination in 2023 — the likes of which I doubt we’ll ever see again."
During the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen won the 13th consecutive race for Red Bull Racing and broke McLaren's record from 1988. He extended the record to 16 victories before the only race of the season that the team from Milton Keynes didn't win - the Singapore Grand Prix.
Lando Norris achieved the second podium for his season during the race at Hungaroring and shared the podium with the Dutchman. During the celebrations, he accidentally broke Verstappen's trophy, which Brown also remembered:
"In Hungary, when Red Bull Racing eclipsed McLaren’s long-held record from 1988 (to win their 12th consecutive Grand Prix), it was fitting we were able to share the podium to celebrate their achievement — despite Lando’s slight mishap with the trophy!"
McLaren's CEO also commended Fernando Alonso's performances as he achieved eight podiums during the 2023 season and showed his age is not an issue when it comes to his competitiveness.
"It was also great to see our former driver and two-time world champion Fernando Alonso proving that at 42, age is no barrier to success — scoring six podiums in the first eight races."
