Red Bull Racing F1 team advisor Helmut Marko taunted Lewis Hamilton fans by correcting a report in his recent interview.
Helmut Marko is pretty famous for making blunt statements that often stir up some controversy or backlash. In his recent interview with OE24, Marko made a statement that might upset a few of Lewis Hamilton's fans.
It all began with a reporter talking about the situation of Mercedes' team principal, Toto Wolff, who was working from home in two recent Grand Prix races that he could not attend due to knee surgery. Wolff was not present at both the Japanese and Qatar Grand Prix.
The 2023 Qatar Grand Prix did not turn out well for Mercedes as George Russell and Hamilton ended up colliding in the first lap, which destroyed Mercedes' hopes for a double podium. The reporter said:
"Toto Wolff has probably been annoyed enough about the crash of the Mercedes drivers working from home. Now, it appears that Hamilton is suddenly starting to make mistakes as well..."
It was at this point when Marko interrupted the reporter saying "May I correct that," and then continued "Now he's starting to admit mistakes" hinting that Hamilton has been making mistakes all along, just not admitting them.
While George Russell has expressed his disappointment after the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix, the seven-time World Champion said that after rewatching the tapes, he admits it was his mistake and took the full blame for the incident.
On the bright side, Hamilton's fans have to take Marko's statement with a grain of salt, as he quite often takes shots at multiple drivers in Formula One.
Hamilton's performances in the 2023 season have been pretty consistent so far, outperforming his teammate George Russell by 62 points in the Drivers' Championship.
On the other hand, the British driver had made two notable mistakes before the incident with Russell during the 2023 season. The first one was crashing out in FP3 during the Monaco Grand Prix.
Hamilton's second mistake happened during the Italian Grand Prix when he did not leave enough space for Oscar Piastri on McLaren going side by side into the corner. Two drivers ended up colliding, which destroyed the race for the Australian. Hamilton also took the blame later for this incident and apologized to Piastri after the race.
