Scuderia Ferrari F1 driver shared his opinion on his team's car development progress for the 2024 Formula One season.

Charles Leclerc said recently he would like to stay with Ferrari even beyond the 2024 season when his contract is due, as it has been his dream to win the Championship title with the Italian team.

The Monegasque driver has not been handed the title-contending car this season and could not challenge Max Verstappen on the dominant Red Bull. However, Leclerc feels positive about the development progress of his team, as he told ESPN:

"There's been quite a bit of progress, especially in the second half of the season. When we started after the summer break we really did big steps forward in terms of understanding our car, and that is a good positive step in terms of the future and for future development."

McLaren team made a huge leap forward throughout the season as the team went from driving at the back of the grid to regularly fighting for the podium. Leclerc sees it as proof that big steps forward can be taken.

"This is what gives us the confidence that these big steps can be done, but we need to understand exactly where the problems are coming from."

Formula One is very much a car development race even though it might not seem like that from the outside. Leclerc added:

"We think we understand that but until we put the car down and see huge improvements, it's difficult to predict. It's also all relative in this sport and you are fighting against other cars and it depends on what the others will find. If Red Bull has found something again that will put them again better next year."

On the other hand, the Ferrari driver revealed he feels "very confident" about the direction his team has taken with the development of next year's car.

"I am personally very confident about the direction we have been taking in terms of development and I'm sure it will pay from next year onwards."
