Red Bull Racing F1 team principal Christian Horner recently responded to the rumors about power struggles with the team's advisor, Helmut Marko.
The Red Bull Racing team has been enjoying one of its most dominant seasons in Formula One, winning both championships by a significant margin, and all might seem well for the team.
However, a few reports surfacing this week suggested an insider power struggle between Helmut Marko and Christian Horner, who was apparently "trying to axe" the Australian.
In his recent interview for OE24, Marko denied rumors about the summit that was supposed to take place this week concerning deciding his future in Red Bull.
While Marko also indicated in his interview there are people inside Red Bull who are "trying to redefine their powers," Horner made it clear he is not trying to axe Marko when he told Mirror Sport:
"Without Helmut, I wouldn't be in the position that I am today. Like with the young drivers that he has given an opportunity, he also gave me that opportunity."
The team principal got into Red Bull Racing thanks to Helmut Marko, with whom he competed in the Formula 3000 previously. Horner admits they are not always on the same page but says that's healthy.
"We've always enjoyed a very strong and open relationship. Of course, there are things that we disagree on now and again, but I think that's healthy."
Horner suggested it has been "slightly different" for Helmut since the passing of the Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz. However, he acknowledges Marko's role in the team and says there is no desire to see it change.
"We speak very regularly about all aspects. For Helmut, it's slightly different to how it used to be since the passing of his friend and colleague Dietrich, but he still has a very valuable role that he plays within the team, and there is absolutely no intent or desire from me; or anyone within the team, to see that change."
