Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso apparently left a good impression on his team, which is supposedly interested in extending his contract.
Fernando Alonso is currently the oldest driver in Formula One and will turn 43 during the 2024 season. On the other hand, former F1 driver Karun Chandhok recently stated the Spaniard showed the energy of a 22-year-old in the most recent season.
The double World Champion joined Aston Martin after the 2022 season with a two-year contract that lasts until the end of this year's season.
The double World Champion certainly left an impression on his team as he outperformed his teammate by a great margin and amassed eight podiums throughout the season.
But it hasn't been only his results that brought fruit to the team. Aston's ambassador, Pedro de la Rosa, recently explained Alonso's presence greatly motivates everyone within the team and suggested there have been only positives since his arrival.
Therefore, it seems like a no-brainer for the British team to protect what they have and extend Alonso's contract beyond season 2024.
Lawrence Barretto wrote on the Formula 1 official website his sources suggested not only the team principal is interested in extending collaboration with the Spaniard but also the team's senior personnel.

"Team Principal Mike Krack has made no secret of the fact he would love Fernando Alonso to stay beyond the end of 2024 – and sources say senior personnel within the team back that view. It’s up to Alonso, then, to decide if he wants to stay."

The 42-year-old is certainly not young anymore. But so far, he has dismissed all the rumors of his potential retirement. He explained he will be the first one to raise his hand and say it's time to retire when he will feel a drop in his motivation and performance.
The Spanish Matador broke a record for the most finished seasons at the end of 2023 when he completed his 20th season in F1. How long will he continue, in your opinion, and will it be with Aston Martin?
