Former F1 team principal Guenther Steiner suggested Lewis Hamilton would become a hero to the world if he managed to win a title with Scuderia Ferrari.
After the end of the 2023 season, Lewis Hamilton made a huge decision—to end his long partnership with Mercedes and join Ferrari after the 2024 season.
The seven-time World Champion is going to join the Italian team in the middle of a very long Championship title drought. The last time that Ferrari won a Championship was in 2008.
Since then, Scuderia has scored six second and six third-place finishes in the Constructors' Championship, but they have not finished on top for 16 seasons straight.
Former team principal of Haas, Guenther Steiner, told RacingNews365 it would be a massive sensation if Hamilton joined Ferrari and won a title with them.
"You need to focus on 'How can we get what we have got out of Mercedes at Ferrari and win there? Can you imagine if he starts to win with Ferrari, like he does now with Mercedes?"
"What a hero he will be to the world. I mean, he's already a legend without a doubt, but if he takes Ferrari to a world championship, and I think that is his dream and reason to go there, he will be remembered forever."
Winning a title with Ferrari is, of course, a great challenge, and Champions like Fernando Alonso or Sebastian Vettel didn't manage to achieve that. However, Steiner reckons Hamilton is not lacking confidence.
"So obviously, he will be thinking 'what if,' but he's not lacking confidence. After seven times being a world champion, I think he is in a good space."
"I think Lewis is confident enough. He made the decision, he knows he can't change it. Focus on what is coming and not regretting [it]. You can't change it anyway."
