The team principal of
Mercedes,
Toto Wolff, said that
Lewis Hamilton won't take much valuable information with him once he departs his team.
The seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton has been with the Mercedes F1 team for 11 years. This year will be his 12th and the last season with Silver Arrows.
At the end of 2024, he will be going to
Ferrari, which leaves the team principal of Mercedes, Toto Wolff, with quite a few problems to manage.
The two main problems are that he has to search for a driver that could replace the 39-year-old. The second is that he has to ensure Ferrari doesn't gain a competitive advantage over Mercedes by getting valuable development information from Hamilton.
While the seven-time World Champion might not understand all the technicalities that engineers do, it is reasonable to assume he already knows quite a lot about his car.
On the other hand, the team principal of Silver Arrows asserted it won't be as big of a problem as some say. He pointed out that many engineers are moving between different teams, which might be even more significant, and it is not discussed as much. He told ORF:
"I believe that drivers have less input in terms of development than any engineer. And there are always personnel changes of people moving from us to Ferrari or Red Bull. That’s what you have to pay attention to."
The 52-year-old did admit Hamilton might take some information with him. Still, he said it wouldn't be anything significant: "Apart from a few minor details, Lewis won't take much development to Ferrari."
