Lewis Hamilton opened up to the media, saying the most recent season has been emotionally draining.
Mercedes F1 driver Lewis Hamilton finished the 2023 season in third place. While it doesn't sound like an incredible result, he was the best non-Red Bull driver this season.
On the other hand, being third does not mean much to the seven-time World Champion nevertheless, as he said. He wants to fight for the Grand Prix victories and titles, but he needs a faster car.
The 38-year-old seemed to have found new motivation throughout the 2023, but he recently admitted he was emotionally drained after the last race of the year. Hamilton told the media:
"I’m not burnt out. I’d rather not keep going into the season, but I think for me I’m just more emotionally drained at the end of the year."
The Mercedes driver pointed to a challenging 2023 season F1 schedule that has been criticized by multiple drivers in recent weeks, including his teammate
George Russell and
Sergio Perez.
"It definitely has been so difficult for everybody here, all the teams moving from Las Vegas out to [Abu Dhabi]. I think it should be better next year."
The seven-time World Champion very often encourages people to keep a positive mindset, but he revealed it has been really draining with all the negativity in 2023. He added:
"It’s obviously a very long season. I think really with all the negativity in the world as well, it’s been quite draining just to maintain a positive mindset through the year."
