Max Verstappen shared his plans with Verstappen.com Racing and explained why he prefers other series over Formula 2 or Formula 3.
Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen recently elaborated on the purpose and the mission of his venture outside of Formula 1 - Verstappen.com Racing.
The Dutchman revealed he wants to connect the two currently separate Worlds of Sim Racing and racing in real life by allowing sim racing drivers to transition to real series like GT3 and progress further in their careers.
The triple F1 World Champion explained the current most usual way to become a professional racing driver is through go-karts, but that is too expensive compared to sim racing which is much more affordable.
Verstappen wants to set up his own GT3 team (on which he's already working) through which he could allow sim racers with the potential to transition. He explained on his website:
"It’s also true not everyone in the sim team can step into a real racecar, but the boys that I do see potential in, I want to help by setting up my own GT3-team."
The GT3 class, also known as Cup Grand Touring Cars, features cars based on mass-production cars from a diverse range of manufacturers. Verstappen stated he prefers it over F2 and F3.
"I think GT3 is a beautiful class, where you can drive in great endurance-races. A junior class for the Formula cars doesn’t appeal to me. Formula 3, Formula 2… you have too little time in the car and it costs too much money."
Almost every single driver on the F1 grid that we see today came from Formula 2 or Formula 3 because these are the most similar series, but Verstappen doesn't think that F1 is the only path for racers.
The 26-year-old seems to be targeting the main struggle of every single motor racing driver, which is how expensive the sport is. He also added:
"In the GT3 class you drive in more races, but it also has a different atmosphere. It’s more relaxed."
