Lewis Hamilton will be driving for Ferrari from the 2025 F1 season, and according to Red Bull advisor, Helmut Marko, it will weaken his current team.
The British driver built a legacy with Mercedes, the team, which helped him to win six World Drivers' Championships. After 12 years with the team, Hamilton will leave Mercedes after the 2024 season, and that will change a lot for both teams.
On the one hand, it can be perceived as the start of a new era for the team from Maranello, and on the other hand, it's certainly an end of the era for Mercedes.
Hamilton has been a prominent figure in the team for over a decade, and his departure will certainly leave a mark. George Russell and whoever will replace Hamilton will certainly try to fill in that space, but it may be difficult, given all the experience of the 39-year-old.
According to Helmut Marko, who works with Red Bull, and spoke to OE24, Hamilton's move to the Italian team will "weaken" Mercedes, but not necessarily strengthen Ferrari.
"That doesn't change anything for us, except that I see it as weakening Mercedes. Whether it strengthens Ferrari remains to be seen. Overall, this has an incredible impact, right down to the stock market prices. It's great that something is happening."
With any move made in Formula One, the impact on the popular Netflix series Drive to Survive is discussed by the F1 fans; however, sometimes, the script writes itself.
According to Marko, what happened during this year's off-season was even "better than Netflix," showing a truly unpredictable side of the sport, where anything can change any second.
"That's true. Normally, in a situation like this, your mind is already more focused on the new team. The current team cannot let him take part in any serious innovations because he would of course take them with him. The whole thing is excellent for sports, better than Netflix."
