Fred Vasseur, Ferrari's team principal, suggested he is convinced his team will show the same evolution over the 2024 season as it showed in 2023.
The Scuderia Ferrari F1 team started the most recent season in a worse place than they initially expected. The Italian team was probably the fourth fastest in the first half of the season.
However, they recovered significantly in the second part despite not introducing many upgrades. Ferrari made significant progress during the season overall and finished as the second-fastest team after Red Bull.
Fred Vasseur reflected on the last year ahead of the upcoming season that begins in less than two weeks when he told the media:
"If you have a look at last year, we had a very positive evolution all over the season. But we had some stages of the season when Charles was performing a bit more, when Carlos was performing a bit more."
It isn't clear how the Italian team will measure compared to their rivals at the beginning of the season. But the Frenchman asserted there has to be, and he believes there will be a similar kind of evolution regardless of the team's position.
"Into the recovery of the team, between the first part and the last part, I think the drivers played a decent role. We need to have this kind of evolution in a racing team. And we are there today."
"For sure, we want to have more, we want to push more, it's the DNA of our racing team. But honestly, I'm really convinced that we will have this kind of positive evolution again in '24. And this will be very helpful to continue to improve."
The whole Ferrari team now should be in Bahrain, where it will put their 2024 challenger - SF24, on track during the pre-season testing.
The pre-season testing starts tomorrow (on the 21st of February). During the three days of testing, Leclerc and Sainz will have a chance to get familiar with their cars while their teams will have the opportunity to explore different setups to prepare for the season ahead in the best possible way.
