The team principal of
Ferrari, Fred Vasseur, clarified that his team is taking the 2024 season equally seriously despite considerable changes in 2025.
Ferrari made the brave step to sign Lewis Hamilton, who will join the team starting from the 2025 season. The arrival of the seven-time World Champion will probably change the dynamics inside the team.
Many already can't wait to see whether the 39-year-old will elevate the Prancing Horse and how he will deal with all the challenges that arise. The 2025 season is, therefore, already very much anticipated.
However, Ferrari still has one season in between, and the team principal of the red clarified it's not going to be anything like a "transition year." As reported by motorsport.com, the Frenchman said:
"No, this is wrong, 2024 won't be a transition year. It's quite an important season for us, and I'm fully focused on this."
Haas's F1 team, for example, hinted the 2024 season would be more like a transition year, but Ferrari's ambitions are to fight for the championship as soon as possible.
Red Bull is still expected to start the season with the fastest car, but all of the top five teams aim for solid evolution of their concepts throughout the year and want to fight for race wins later on.
Ferrari was perhaps closest to the team from Milton Keynes at the end of the most recent season, so the hopes in Italy are high. Vasseur added:
"I think the best way to prepare something is to do a good job. It means that we are focused on '24, we want to get the best, we want to win races, we want to continue on the path of 2023, and we won't be at all thinking about 2025."
How many races can Ferrari win in 2024? The first signs of the team's competitiveness will be revealed during the pre-season testing in Bahrain, which begins tomorrow, on the 21st of February.
