Scuderia Ferrari team principal shared that his F1 team needs to take one lesson from Max Verstappen after watching him in 2024.
After winning his fourth consecutive title in Las Vegas, Max Verstappen made a pretty bold claim, stating that he would have done the same, and even earlier, if he had driven for McLaren or Ferrari.
The team principal of the Italian F1 team, Fred Vasseur, responded to Verstappen's comment, suggesting it doesn't make sense as you cannot separate the performance of the driver from that of his car.
While he dismissed the four-time World Champion's comment, Vasseur shared that he was impressed by how the Verstappen made the most of every single opportunity that he had despite often not having the fastest car.
"What impressed me about Verstappen this year was his ability to extract the best even when they struggled."
The race that stands out the most is the legendary 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, where the 27-year-old Red Bull driver started from P17 and ultimately crossed the finish line first, more than 19 seconds ahead of everyone.
Throughout the whole season, Verstappen didn't finish worse than P6, even though there were times when Red Bull had the fourth-fastest car.
This was essential in collecting valuable points for the drivers' championship, which he managed to secure two race weekends before the end of the season. The Ferrari team principal believes that is something his team needs to learn from the Dutchman.
"And this is a lesson for us, because over the course of a season in such a competitive context there are races where we are not the strongest, but it is necessary to maximize the result."
"To win, you need to make a difference when you're not in the right place. That's where he has made a difference."
