Jacques Villeneuve suggested Aston Martin might be the biggest disappointment of the 2025 F1 season and explained why.
At the start of 2023, Aston Martin surprised everyone by regularly competing for podiums. However, the British Formula 1 team wasn't quite able to figure out what made them so fast.
Since then, they have been on a decline. Although Aston Martin started 2024 as the fourth or fifth fastest team, it failed to make progress.
This meant that, in terms of performance, teams like Haas, Racing Bulls, and Alpine caught up with them by the end of the year.
While it seems the owner of the team, Lawrence Stroll, is making all the best moves, like signing the best engineers, Adrian Newey, Fernando Alonso, building a new factory, wind tunnel & more, it is yet to reflect on the performance of the cars.
In his latest interview with Action Network, Formula 1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve tried to set expectations very low for Aston Martin fans in 2025, as he suggested the F1 team might otherwise be the biggest disappointment.
"I would say Aston Martin will be the biggest disappointment of 2025, not because they will do a bad job but because people are expecting them to start winning with Adrian Newey there."
"But, he hasn't had time yet to have an effect on the tea. The expectations from outsiders and fans will be misplaced."
"It will be disappointing not because of bad results but because they won't be what people are wanting and hoping to see with Newey there. It takes time."
Latest winter break rumors suggested Max Verstappen might be on his way to Aston Martin with a $1,2 billion deal.
However, Villeneuve doesn't think the British F1 team is the right place for the four-time world champion as of now. He said the following in an interview before the rumors broke out.
"Lawrence Stroll would need someone that's very strong mentally and hard-headed to replace Fernando Alonso."
"Max Verstappen would be more like, what's my next step? You win with Ferrari, you win with Mercedes not with Aston Martin. Like Lewis Hamilton, he wants to win."
