Toto Wolff, who was spotted speaking to Jos Verstappen in Bahrain, suggested anything is possible when questioned about the potential move of triple World Champion to Mercedes.
The team principal of the Mercedes F1 team, Toto Wolff, was spotted speaking to the father of Red Bull's triple World Champion, Jos Verstappen, after the race at the Bahrain International Circuit.
It isn't clear what the conversation was about. But we know that the Austrian team principal is searching for a strong driver to replace his seven-time World Champion in Mercedes' seat starting from season 2025.
The most successful driver in the history of F1 will be leaving Silver Arrows at the end of the 2024 season, and there are not many drivers of his caliber on the grid.
Could Wolff have been exploring his options when talking to Max Verstappen's father? When asked about the conversation by F1-Insider, he reportedly said:
“"I have known Jos for 25 years - with ups and downs - and I just congratulated him on his son's achievements. Max drives in a galaxy all his own."”
The 26-year-old Dutchman is arguably one of the best F1 drivers ever. Red Bull has handed him a competitive car for the last three years, and he has delivered three consecutive championship titles.
The 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix was the season's first race, and Verstappen confirmed we might see more of his dominance after finishing the race 20 seconds ahead of everyone.
The Mercedes team principal acknowledged his incredible performance after the race when he said that his race was "extraordinary" and that he was in a different galaxy compared to everyone.
Drivers usually want to go to a team that can offer them the fastest car, which currently seems to be Red Bull for the 26-year-old, so it seems he doesn't have a reason to think about change.
But when Wolff was asked whether Verstappen in the seat of Mercedes in 2025 was possible, he apparently responded: "Anything is possible."
