Alpine Formula One team officially confirmed their new team principal after the launch of their 2024 challenger - A524.
Alpine is a team with great ambitions, talent, and resources, which has been stuck in the midfield for several seasons now. However, the French team has bigger ambitions.
In 2023, Alpine went through significant restructuring, and members in key positions were replaced. These included the former team principal Otmar Szafnauer, chief technical officer Pat Fry, and sporting director Alain Permane.
Fry and Permane quickly found themselves new positions in Williams and Visa Cash App RB, while Szafnauer is out of F1 at the moment.
The team principal was replaced in the second part of the season by Bruno Famin, who stepped down from his position of VP of Alpine Motorsports to take on the role of interim team principal.
Now, it has been revealed that Famin's temporary role has been made permanent, and he will officially become Alpine's team principal for the season 2024 while balancing his duties in the role of the brand’s VP of Motorsports.
During the launch of A524 on Wednesday, February 7th, the Frenchman stated that his team is not setting any numerical targets for the season.
"We need to continue to improve the team to take it to the next level. We all know that progress is never linear. That’s why we will not declare any numerical targets."
In the words of Pierre Gasly, Alpine made some "bold and aggressive" changes ahead of the season 2024. How the French team measures against their rivals remains to be seen. Famin added:
"We are focusing on ourselves and the improvement across the many different areas, to enable us to demonstrate greater competitiveness. It’s going to be a fierce battle on-track, and off it in the development race in the factories, and we intend to be part of that close competition."
