Former F1 driver and Sky Sports pundit Ralf Schumacher shared what Fernando Alonso told him when asked if he was thinking about joining Red Bull.
Fernando Alonso is in one of the best positions in the driver market he has been in a long time. After what he showed driving for Aston Martin last season and the first three races of this year, it is clear it would be a safe bet to put the Spanish Matador in the seat of any car.
Some of the top teams are currently going through a period of turbulence. Mercedes will have a free seat because Lewis Hamilton is leaving the team.
Red Bull might even have two free seats, as Sergio Perez's contract with the team expires at the end of this season, and Max Verstappen is reportedly considering leaving.
The 42-year-old is standing on the sidelines and monitoring the situation for now. Aston Martin already stated they are interested in prolonging his contract, and now the British team is basically only waiting for Alonso to decide.
However, according to Ralf Schumacher, the team principal of Red Bull Racing, Christian Horner is a big fan of the Spaniard and seems to have "big intentions" to bring him into his team next year.
The Former F1 driver also revealed to Sky Germany what the Aston Martin driver said when asked about rumors of being connected to Red Bull. According to F1 Oversteer, Schumacher told Sky Germany:
"There are strong rumors. Fernando reacted very cautiously when we asked him in the paddock. He said he was thinking about it."
Alonso also said he needed to rethink whether he actually wanted to continue racing at all. On the other hand, it is hard to imagine he would refuse the opportunity to drive the fastest car on the grid if he had the chance.
