Aston Martin's driver
Fernando Alonso expressed concerns over his team's current form following the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix.
The Aston Martin drivers scored only two points in all three of the last three race weekends combined (starting from Miami until the Monaco Grand Prix). Even
RB, which is sixth in the Championship, scored more points in the last three races.
The British team was considered the fifth-fastest overall this season. If that is the case, Fernando Alonso and
Lance Stroll should consistently finish ninth and tenth, but they have been struggling in recent three-race weekends.
The team got pretty unlucky during the
Miami Grand Prix. However, Aston Martin introduced probably the most significant upgrades out of all the teams on the grid during the following race in
Imola, and it seemingly didn't bring any performance.
Speaking to the media after the eighth round of the 2024 season in Monaco, where neither of Aston Martin's drivers finished inside the top ten, the
42-year-old driver said:
All in all difficult weekend, obviously you learn a lot from the difficulties so that’s what we try to do but tough one…
"[It's] obviously not ideal, the current form, we seem to go back to the midfield instead of looking at the front runners."
While it seems that Aston Martin is falling back at the moment, the double World Champion remains hopeful that progress can come quickly at any point.
"But these things can change quickly, we saw with many other examples how quickly things can change, a good upgrade on the car and you can move five or six positions, so that is what we want to do on the next one and we work hard on that direction."
Aston Martin's next chance to score comes in one week at
Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, where Alonso finished second last year.
