Aston Martin F1 driver
Fernando Alonso reflected on the 2023 season after the second consecutive DNF at the 2023
Mexico City Grand Prix.
Fernando Alonso
recently addressed rumors about his retirement, saying he is still hungry for the race wins and has no date set for the end of his career.
However, his Aston Martin car did not give him the chance to prove it in the last two races, both of which resulted in a retirement for the Spanish Matador.
In relation to the Mexico City Grand Prix, Alonso told the media he could feel something wrong with the car right from the start of the
race on Sunday:
"Yeah, we felt immediately something wrong in the car. We were quite slow, we let Lance go as well at the beginning just to hope for a better result for the team. But we were slow in general in the race."
The 42-year-old mentioned the whole weekend has been difficult. Maybe he was also relating to the
incident in qualifying going out of turn number 3. He spun around and caused yellow flags at the end of Q1.
"Not only in the race, I think the whole weekend has been a little bit difficult for us. Sometimes you learn more things from the difficulties than from the celebrations, so hopefully it’s one of those times."
On the other hand, Alonso has added seven podiums to his collection this season, showing his age is not a problem when it comes to competing for race wins.
He said the 2023 season had been a good season, even if he retired for all the remaining races of the season. Nevertheless, Alonso will try to score big during this weekend in
Sao Paulo.
"But no, it’s not frustration yet, this year has been an incredible season for us. So, even if we DNF the remaining races, 2023 is still a good season, but hopefully we can revert this situation and we can finish on a high."
