According to recent reports, the seven-time World Champion
Lewis Hamilton cannot drive the
Ferrari F1 car during the post-season tests in Abu Dhabi.
The season - 2024 is Lewis Hamilton's last with
Mercedes. After the end of this year, the 39-year-old driver will
fulfill his dream and officially join Scuderia Ferrari.
Hamilton achieved all his success, including all
103 Grand Prix
victories,
201 podiums, and
seven Championship
titles, with the Mercedes power unit (even when driving for
McLaren).
In fact, the seven-time Champion has never driven a Formula 1 car with a different power unit, so he might need some time to adjust.
If Hamilton had the chance to drive Ferrari's car during the
post-season tests in
Abu Dhabi, it could be a great chance to become more
familiar with his new crew and the car.
However, according to
BBC reporter
Andrew Benson, there is a
0% chance that this will happen. When asked in a
Q&A session what's the likelihood of Hamilton doing a post-season test with Ferrari in Abu Dhabi, he wrote:
"Zero. Hamilton is under contract to Mercedes until the end of the year, and they say he cannot test for Ferrari at the end of the season, as they have a lot of promotional and farewell work to do after 12 years together - and 18 with Mercedes engines."
On the other hand, it should be noted that some drivers, such as
Fernando Alonso, have found a way around these kinds of problems in the past (although all drivers have
different contracts).
At the end of the
2022 season, Alonso left
Alpine. However, due to
contractual obligations and
sponsorship deals, he couldn't drive a car with different sponsors and brands on it.
Cleverly, the double World Champion got around this problem by driving clean, green, unbranded
Aston Martin at the post-season testing in Abu Dhabi.
