Guenther Steiner, former team principal of the Haas F1 team, discussed Logan Sargeant's seat in Williams following the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix.
Although the American driver made progress this year, the 2024 season so far still probably hasn't played out as he or his team would have liked.
Logan Sargeant has made a few too many mistakes and didn't have the pace to score points. He currently stands 21st in the Drivers' Championship.
Rumors about his potential replacement have been emerging left and right over the last couple of years. With the latest change of rules published by FIA, it could be possible for Andrea Kimi Antonelli to replace him as soon as in Barcelona.
On the other hand, what matters is what is written in Sargeant's contract, and that is not known. Asked on the Red Flags Podcast when he thinks Sargeant might be replaced, Guenther Steiner said:
"I think at the end of the year. I don't know how the contract is phrased, I mean there's a lot of stuff going on there that we don't know."
"First of all, you always try to work with the people you've got. You need to show in a team that you try your best. Obviously, at some stage, enough is enough, it's like, 'Why are we doing this?'"
While Steiner said he thinks Sargeant will likely race for the British team until the end of the year, he suggested it is possible he would be replaced after the summer break if he has a few more bad races like in Canada.
"I think it will go to the end, I think if he's got a few more [races] like this [in Canada] before the summer break, after the summer break maybe there's somebody else in the cockpit. And I think it will go altogether with who is going to drive the car next year."
