Double Formula E Champion Jean-Eric Vergne addressed
Max Verstappen's previous comments concerning the electric formula series.
Red Bull Racing F1 driver Max Verstappen
shared his opinion on Formula E in an interview after the most recent 2024 Japanese Grand Prix.
While the triple World Champion said it's not a category that he would like to drive in the future, he suggested he frequently watches the series to support his friends and believes the talent there is very high.
In his recent interview with AutoMoto, Jean-Eric Vergne (who has competed in Formula E since 2014) addressed the Dutchman's kind comments.
"Some of the drivers don't even know what they're talking about, some of them just talk trash about Formula E."
"Max actually watches all of the races he can and is friends with many of the Formula E drivers. It's nice to see that comment from Max."
Verstappen drives the simulator probably more than any other driver on the grid. The 26-year-old loves racing no matter what series he is in, and he is actually
working on establishing his own GT3-class team.
"With all of the kind of racing he watches, either in F1, I know he watches everything, and then all of the racing he does in the simulator, I think he has a pretty good understanding of what we’re going through with those cars."
Vergne also has experience in F1 as he raced for Toro Rosso in seasons 2012-2014. Comparing Formula E and the pinnacle of motorsport, the Frenchman admitted his current series isn't the most technical but suggested there are more parameters each driver has to understand to win.
"I don't know if we're the most technical [series] but it sure that I have a lot more homework to do in Formula E than WEC (World Endurance Championship) or F1."
"There are a lot more parameters that a driver needs to understand if they want to win a race - not only about tire management or being fast, there are a lot of other things going on that you need to really master."
