Red Bull Racing F1 driver
Max Verstappen supported a rule that does not benefit Red Bull going into the season 2024.
Red Bull has one every single race besides the
Singapore Grand Prix during the season so far. While Verstppan has been a big part of it, the Red Bull engineers have built an amazing car that allowed Dutchman to dominate.
Verstappen won his 50th Grand Prix race during last week's
United States Grand Prix. While he manages to win race after race, the competitors have been gradually closing in on the Red Bull.
Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton closed the gap, leading Max Verstappen to almost one second in the final laps of the race. Verstappen told the media ahead of the 2023
Mexico City Grand Prix:
"At the moment, they're catching, and it's going to be interesting to see where everyone is going to be next year at the first race."
There is a rule in F1 that allocates wind tunnel time to the teams based on the finish in the Constructors' Championship. The leading team gets the least amount of time and the last team gets the most.
"Those are the rules, when you are the leading team, you have less wind tunnel time. Honestly, I think it's, it's correct, it's fine."
Verstappen agrees with the rule, understanding the purpose of the rule is to keep the grid closer to gather and make the sport fair and entertaining for people.
"It’s good for the sport. Time will tell how competitive we're all going to be next year. The good thing is that the rules are not really changing. So whatever you do now you still learn."
The Dutchman isn't too bothered by the wind tunnel time anyway, as the Red Bull team has been able to focus on the next year's car a lot earlier after the team already secured the Constructors' and the Drivers' Championship titles for this season during
Japanese and
Qatar Grand Prix.
"I think you're learning a lot for next year anyway. So it's not like you're focusing fully on this year and then suddenly need to rebuild for next year."
