Max Verstappen shared his honest thoughts on Lando Norris's comment that the victory in Brazil was "just luck" and not talent.
In his recent interview with ViaPlay, Max Verstappen confirmed that he saw the 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix as the race weekend where the Championship title was decided.
After starting from P17, the Dutchman went on to win the Grand Prix at Interlagos Circuit by 31.372 seconds ahead of his championship rival Lando Norris, who started from pole and finished in P6.
The McLaren driver was obviously very disappointed after that race and stated that Max Verstappen's victory was more down to luck rather than talent as he profited from the red flag timing.
It should be noted, though, that Norris retracted this statement at the 2024 FIA prize-giving ceremony and added that what the 27-year-old has done was just incredible.
During his latest post-season interview with ViaPlay, Max Verstappen was asked to share his thoughts about the controversial comment, and he replied:
"Yeah, they interview him right after a race where he got a mental blow, where he could have won the championship, then it was turned around."
When Verstappen was further asked why Norris would call his "masterclass" a "pure luck," he continued:
"At that moment... I know, Lando, and at that moment, you're, of course, very disappointed in yourself, and you immediately get a question like that, then you just shouldn't have had a camera in front of you. I know Lando is a good person, and he doesn't mean it at that moment."
"He's very disappointed, then he gets that question, and then you answer immediately because you're frustrated - I don't take it too serious."
"[Our relationship with Lando is] totally fine. we still text, we see each other. I talked to him on the phone yesterday about a helmet swap, those kind of things."
