Executive Chairman of the
Aston Martin F1 Team
Lawrence Stroll admitted chances of prolonging the contract with
Fernando Alonso in his recent interview.
Fernando Alonso has joined Aston Martin to replace retiring
Sebastian Vettel ahead of the 2023 season. Coming from an unlucky season at
Alpine, Alonso instantly got used to his new team.
Aston Martin was able to produce a competitive car, and the experienced 42-year-old made great use of it, achieving seven podiums for the team since the beginning of the season.
The Spaniard is currently standing fourth in the Drivers Championship with 182 points, which seems like an outstanding effort compared to his teammate
Lance Stroll, who is 11th with 47 points.
The age does not seem to be a problem for the two-time World Champion. The partial team owner of the Aston Martin Lawrence Stroll told
Sky Sports:
He is full of energy as if he were 22 years old. He is very committed, extremely motivated, obviously extremely talented, and a fantastic brand ambassador.
Alonso has been doing Aston Martin nothing but a great name ever since he joined the team. Stroll sees him as a fantastic ambassador for the brand.
"He is fantastic as a Formula 1 driver, I would say on and off the track he is a fantastic ambassador for Aston Martin."
In regards to prolonging the contract for the Spanish driver, Stroll admitted anything is possible, neither confirming nor denying the possibility.
Anything is possible. At this moment he has a contract to drive with us next year, and we are looking forward to it.
Alonso has been the only driver on the grid to make it into the third part of qualifying every race this season until the
United States Grand Prix. While his future after next season is unclear, Alonso can continue proving his worth with highly consistent results.
