Carlos Sainz suggested Scuderia
Ferrari has the strongest driver pairing not only because of their speed but also another aspect that does not get talked about as often.
Both Carlos Sainz and
Charles Leclerc are in the middle of their contract negotiations with Scuderia Ferrari, as Both drivers have their contracts valid until the end of this season.
While it remains a question whether we will see both current Ferrari drivers with the team from 2024 onwards, Sainz believes he and Leclerc proved as a great driver duo for the team
Asked by
as.com whether Ferrari has the strongest driver pair from all the Formula One teams on the grid, the 29-year-old responded:
"Perhaps I am influenced by the fact that I am one of the two drivers and I will think yes, I will recommend Ferrari yes."
While he makes a few mistakes here and there, Leclerc is generally considered one of the fastest, if not the fastest, driver on the grid at the moment.
Sainz showed in many of the races of the 2023 season he can match the pace of his teammate, and he is credited for being stronger in terms of race strategy. But besides their speed, he believes the synergy of the two Ferrari drivers is what brings value to the team.
"But in addition to being fast and good, I do know that I get on very well with Charles, we respect each other a lot on the track and we put Ferrari ahead."
Leclerc and Sainz have shown some incredibly close battles on track throughout their three years together but never once crashed into one another. That is something not all F1 teams can brag about. The Spanish driver added:
"We have been together for three years and there has not been an incident on the track. We went out to all the races fourth and fifth, first and second, always close to each other."
