Talking to the media at Bahrain International Circuit on Friday, Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz answered questions concerning his future.
Sainz will start the first race of the 2024 season this week, knowing that no matter how well he performs, he will not remain a part of the Ferrari F1 team.
At the end of 2024, he will depart the team and be replaced by Lewis Hamilton. Asked about how it feels to enter the season with an uncertain future, the Spanish driver responded to the media in Bahrain.
"If there's one thing that I've had over the last few years, it's stability. It will be my fourth year in this team, and I feel prepared and ready to take my fourth year as a good challenge here in Ferrari."
The 29-year-old lately admitted the Hamilton announcement caught him by surprise as he was just looking to sign a contract with Scuderia. As to where exactly he might go after Ferrari, he admitted he has "no idea" at the moment.
"Obviously, next year, the team will be different, and I will be moving somewhere else, but I still have no idea where."
However, Sainz is not the only one whose contract expires at the end of the upcoming season. More than half of the grid has an uncertain future at the moment, and Sainz is one of the drivers in a better position.
After proving his qualities driving for Ferrari, many teams will be interested in the experienced Spaniard. Moreover, he still has one year to make the decision.
"I'm going to take my time to take the decision, the right decision for me, for my career, for the next three, four years that I might be in the next place that I go to."
The Ferrari driver asserted he is going to talk to multiple teams, hear out all the offers and then assess his options before making the final choice.
"In order for that, I need time to see the whole situation, talk to all the teams, and see who's offering the best chance for me to be world champion in the future."
