Carlos Sainz addressed the speculations that emerged in the media over the last few days, suggesting he had already signed his contract for 2025.
After Red Bull's recent announcement that
Sergio Perez signed a two-year extension to his current contract, Scuderia
Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz isn't left with many options.
The 29-year-old has repeatedly proven that he deserves a seat in one of the top teams. However, it does not seem that any are left for him.
The only two seats left in the top five teams are in
Mercedes and
Aston Martin, and Andrea Kimi Antonelli and
Lance Stroll have already unofficially occupied both.
The two main options that the Spanish driver was reported to be considering are
Williams and
Sauber. Speculations that emerged claimed he had already signed with one specific team, which will be announced soon.
Speaking to the media during the press day ahead of the 2024
Canadian Grand Prix, Sainz clarified his position, as he said:
"The only thing I can tell you is that there is nothing locked in, and I have seen reports in the media - I don't know if it is in Spain - of people saying I've signed, and when I look at those things, it makes me laugh."
"I remember seeing reports three months ago that I had signed for Mercedes, and reports that I had signed for Red Bull - and those places are not going to happen."
It is pretty common for smaller media outlets to come up with rumors that aren't true. They profit from made-up lies, and this concerns the 29-year-old Ferrari driver.
"It is funny how people are now saying I've signed for Williams, and sometimes this goes a bit unpunished for some media reports - and I am not talking about you guys because you know when something has been signed or not."
"It concerns me that people can get away with that kind of stuff without it being backed [up] or anything like that. When I have something to announce, you guys will be the first to know and I will be here openly talking about it."
