Charles Leclerc talked about the sentiment inside his team following the victorious 2024 Monaco Grand Prix.
Ferrari started this season as the second-fastest team on the grid but was a couple of tenths per lap slower than the leading Red Bull Racing.
However, as we know, that seems to have changed with the introduction of their new upgrade in Imola during the seventh round of the season.
The following eighth round in Monaco suited the Italian team, and Charles Leclerc made the most of it, snatching the win. Coming to Canada after the victorious weekend in Monaco, the 26-year-old driver said, as quoted by Formu1a.uno:
"We are the team that has improved the most in the last 7-8 months, and the results we are obtaining are the fruit of the hard work that has taken place up to this moment."
"However, we must continue to improve and be fighting for the victory every weekend. It can be a positive weekend, we must be ready to take advantage of the opportunities."
The last couple of circuits didn't really suit Red Bull, and it should be a similar case with Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Helmut Marko even already predicted Ferrari to be stronger than the Austrian team. Leclerc continued:
"It has always been, even in the past, one of our strengths. With this car, we have greatly improved the handling and consistency, maintaining strong points such as the kerbs."
Looking more to the future, the Monegasque driver asserted he still doesn't feel like his team is the favorite but hinted their next upgrades might put Ferrari ahead of the team from Milton Keynes.
"From Spain, I think we will see a very strong Red Bull again. The weekend can be positive for us. We need to optimize our potential and do our best, [while] waiting for the updates that could also put us ahead of Red Bull in the future."
