Red Bull Racing driver
Sergio Perez got made fun of by thousands of F1 fans under the recent team's trophy photo.
The Red Bull Racing team has achieved an amazing success in 2023. The team won both Championships, achieved a one-two in the Drivers' Championship, and won 21 out of 22 races of the season.
The photo illustrates quite well just how dominant the Red Bull Racing team has been recently, but some fans on Instagram could not help but poke at Perez for not achieving as much as Verstappen. Some of the satirical comments included:
"When your groupmate does all the work and you still get the credits" - 17,941 likes.
"Perez is the guy who accepts all the high marks for the group project yet, contributed nothingđŸ˜‚" - 4863 likes.
"Checo there for moral support." - 1138 likes
The Mexican driver could not quite compete with the Dutchman throughout the majority of the 2023 season, but he still achieved two Grand Prix victories and nine podiums, with one sprint race victory and three sprint race podiums.
Some fans recognized what the 33-year-old brought to the team and there were also quite a few supportive comments like the one below:
"Checo got two wins and many podiums and came 2nd in the Constructors', which is not seen every day. I think he deserves credit and not everyone trying to make a meme out of him. He has been the best Red Bull 2nd driver in forever. Give him the respect he deserves." - 2,689 likes
The Red Bull Racing driver recently admitted that 2023 has been a rollercoaster of a season
but stated his main goal is to challenge Verstappen for the Championship next year. Do you think Perez could bring the challenge to the triple World Champion?
