Former F1 driver and Sky Sports co-commentator Martin Brundle commented on
Red Bull's photo of
Max Verstappen and
Sergio Perez with their trophy collection.
Red Bull Racing, with their drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, took over the F1 Championship in 2023. While securing the one-two, the driver duo
won 21 out of 22 races in the season.
Verstappen, with Perez, amassed 30 podiums just from Grand Prix races, not counting the Sprint races. In comparison, all remaining 18 drivers together achieved 36 podiums.
Former F1 driver Martin Brundle responded to the iconic photo on his X (formerly Twitter), praising Red Bull and its drivers but saying he hopes not to see the same image again in 2023:
"Formula One is about excellence throughout the field, the professionalism and dedication of all ten teams and twenty drivers is something to behold from everything I witness today. And so I find this image incredible, even if I hope we don’t see the same thing again next season."
The Sky co-commentator appreciates the excellence and consistency shown by the team from Milton Keynes but would like to see other teams reach the same level in future seasons as well.
When asked what he will remember from the 2023 season, Brundle mentioned the close battles that we have seen between pretty much every single team besides Red Bull:
"The close racing all the way through the field and some incredible battles. Sometimes Crofty [David Croft] and I would be talking about it in commentary, they were going for it and they’d be fighting over 17th, 18th and 19th or something back there down the field."
While the historical charts will show the 2023 season as "boring" because there was one main team that dominated, they won't show the amount of on-track action that the F1 fans have seen. Bundle added:
"Of course, Max and Red Bull dominated, but I’m very pleased I witnessed that firsthand, I really am, but the rest of the racing I thought was pretty solid."
