Oscar Piastri shared during the summer break that he raced in Hungary with a broken rib. Speaking ahead of the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix, he discussed what might have caused it.

The 23-year-old McLaren driver won his first Grand Prix race during the 14th season round at Hungaroring. What is interesting is that he didn't look like he was in any sort of pain at the time.

However, a few weeks later (during the summer break), the Australian driver revealed on his social media that he actually won the Hungarian Grand Prix with a broken rib.

What he didn't reveal at the time is what caused this injury. During the press day ahead of the 15th round of the season (the first race after summer break) in the Netherlands, Piastri explained what he thought was the cause behind the broken rib.

"You make the seat, obviously, at the start of the year, and sometimes you get it a little bit wrong. Some tracks don't expose it, but I think going from Barcelona, Austria, Silverstone, three pretty hardcore tracks [did expose it]."
"So it was just a bit of a pressure point which eventually gave up. But it's all good again now, and we've changed a seat and fixed it immediately, pretty much. So yeah, all back to normal."

In the photo of the scan of his ribs, there was a date of 08.07.2024. What is significant about it? It was just one day after the British Grand Prix.

This meant that Piastri raced with a broken rib in Hungary, Belgium, and most likely Great Britain as well. The 23-year-old now confirmed it was most likely broken even before Silverstone.

"The scan was the day after Silverstone but it was definitely broken before Silverstone."
"I think it was probably a bit disturbed in Barcelona, and then with Austria afterwards it was pretty painful, so it was pretty nasty for a few days. But we made some changes and it was already getting better even with driving, so it's all good,"
